The Wardrobe’s Cost of Authenticity Series Redefines
Support Services for A Changing Workforce
(Greater Philadelphia Area) – With a mission that includes not just eliminating clothing insecurity, but empowering people for success, The Wardrobe’s support services have evolved over 30 years.
New this year, The Cost of Authenticity Series leads thought-provoking conversations that explore the complexities of identity and confidence. These free community panels feature guests who embrace multifaceted identities as they navigate an ever-changing workforce. The next event Women in Nonprofit Leadership features The Wardrobe’s Executive Director Sheri Cole, and will be held in partnership with William Way Center, Wednesday, December 17 at 6 p.m. This event is free with no registration required.
Coaching and education services have always played a role in The Wardrobe’s offerings, helping clients gain skills and confidence. In addition to one-on-one coaching, current workforce development workshops include resume review, interview preparation, and “threads of independence” workshops on building a sustainable wardrobe.
Support Services Manager Persephone Ulysses looks forward to expanding the series in the coming year, welcoming various demographics across the Greater Philadelphia area to embrace the concept of intergenerational conversations.
“As we grow this series, I want people to feel invited, seen, and connected,” she says. “Intergenerational dialogue is about expanding our understanding of what authenticity can look like for everyone.”
ABOUT THE WARDROBE
Celebrating its 30th year, The Wardrobe is a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on eliminating clothing insecurity, empowering people for success, and curbing fashion waste.
Whether someone needs an outfit for work or everyday life or coaching to help them build their career, they receive free support and STAR Treatment - Styling, Time, Advice, and Respect at The Wardrobe. With six locations throughout the Philadelphia region, The Wardrobe supports 10,000 people annually with the clothing, advice, and tools needed to move forward toward independence and stability.
The Wardrobe believes clothing shouldn't be a barrier to success. The organization works to eliminate clothing insecurity, which can mean not having anything to wear or not having the right thing to wear. In addition to clothing, The Wardrobe’s guests have access to the Wings for Success education program, offering one-on-one coaching and workshops to help them achieve their professional or personal goals.
The Wardrobes in Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, and Chester counties provide a high-end resale shopping experience for all. Clothing sales inspire change for The Wardrobe participants by directly funding the programs. With new arrivals daily, any shopper can find great deals on designer and contemporary clothing at over 70% off retail prices. For those outside the area, the organization offers the Wardrobe Box both as a seasonal subscription box (similar to Stitch Fix) for shoppers or personally styled for free for participants.
